MSI Holds Officers’ Seminar on Building a Culture of Safety and Accountability

Magsaysay Shipmanagement, Inc. (MSI) successfully conducted its Officers’ Seminar at the Lavander Hall of City Garden Suites on April 29 with the theme, “Building a Culture of Safety and Accountability: Committed to Safe Choices and Shared Ownership.”

The seminar gathered officers and representatives from partner companies and several strategic business units of Magsaysay Shipping and Logistics (MSL), including National Marine Container Lines (NMCCLI), Lorenzo Shipping Corporation (LSC), Islas Tanker Seatransport Corporation (ITSC), Marine Fuels Philippines, Inc. (MFPI), and Batangas Bay Carrier, Inc. (BBCI).

The event opened with welcome remarks and messages highlighting the importance of maintaining a strong culture of safety across all operations.

One of the key sessions focused on the human element in Behavior-Based Safety (BBS), underscoring the need to address mental wellness. Another session presented real-life navigational incident case studies from a P&I Club perspective, providing valuable insights on risk prevention and accountability at sea.

In the afternoon sessions, participants explored technical matters and the role of Engine Room Management (ERM) and soft skills in promoting operational effectiveness and safety. Key topics included communication, assertiveness, leadership, and teamwork. Discussions on Stop Work Authority (SWA) reinforced the importance of prioritizing safety over commercial pressures and empowering personnel to halt unsafe work practices. Additional sessions on whistleblowing policy and performance appraisal further strengthened awareness of accountability, ethical conduct, and professional responsibility.

Organized by the MSI Crewing Department, the Officers’ Seminar is one of the initiatives through which the company continues to uphold its priority of fostering safe, accountable, and people-centered maritime operations.
